Season Plan

Premium feature

1. Introduction

To access the season plan, click the button at the top right of the season timeline in the calendar.
The season plan helps you plan the season as a whole.
To make it a little less scary for your athletes, Slek uses less technical terms than the scientific literature to describe the periodization of the season. In Slek:
  • periods = macro-cycles,
  • cycles = meso-cycles,
  • weeks = micro-cycles which can be 5 to 10 days.
Defining a season also allows you to:
  • Shift your sports year (not starting in January for example)
  • Define the duration of "weeks" (micro-cycles of not necessarily 7 days)
  • Choose what is displayed in the season timeline (volume, load)
To manage your seasons, this is done in Settings > Seasons

2. Season Plan

In the season plan, you can:
  • Define periods (macro-cycles), cycles (meso-cycles) and weeks (micro-cycles) of training
  • Plan training loads by week/cycle/period (volume or load)
  • Enter goals and important events (competitions, vacations, ...)
  • Plan the progression of your load
You are not required to define all these elements. You can very well define a season plan with only periods or cycles, or even just weeks and plan or not the training load.

3. Practical Use

The plan is a kind of spreadsheet.
These buttons allow you to edit periods and cycles:
  • merges cells to create a period or cycle
  • splits the cell to undo a period or cycle
  • moves up selected cycles/periods
  • moves down selected cycles/periods
  • undo a modification
  • redo an undone modification
On the keyboard, you can use:
  • Arrow keys to navigate in the table
  • CTRL+C to copy the selection
  • CTRL+V to paste
  • Delete to clear the content of selected cells
  • Enter to edit the cell or confirm editing
  • Shift+Enter to go to a new line inside a cell
  • Esc to cancel cell editing
It is not necessary to save your work: it is done automatically as you go, the small symbol confirms that your work is saved.

4. Quantification

For each season, you have the choice to quantify the planned work:
  • In Volume activity duration (in hours)
  • Using Foster load activity duration (in minutes) × perceived effort scaled to [1-10]
  • Using TRIMP load time (in minutes) spent in each HR zone × zone multiplicative factor
You can make this choice in the season configuration accessible via the
button or in the application settings.
The load/volume column allows you to merge cells as you wish to associate a target volume or load with each week/cycle/period.
Notes:
  • This is an approximate forecast, which will be replaced by the volume (or Foster load) of the week's sessions when you add them.
  • This choice only defines what will be displayed in the season timeline and in the planning table, but if you plan in terms of volume, you can still analyze the load in the stats!

5. Training Facets

There are often several "facets" to training. Some will think physical qualities (strength, speed, explosiveness, technique, endurance, ...) others will think more by activity PPG, swimming, cycling, running... each sport and even each coach has their preferences!
Slek allows you to define them as you wish using the button.

6. Glossary

Periods

Macroscopic division of the season. Each period has an overall objective (general preparation, specific preparation, ...).

Cycles & Facets

Typically sub-parts of a period, generally over 3 to 6 weeks focused on specific objectives (e.g.: maximum strength).
These objectives can have several facets to work on, which you can enter in each cycle (see above).

Weeks

The basic element of periodization. It often corresponds to a calendar week, but Slek allows you to define "weeks" of 5 to 10 days. This is the only element that has a fixed duration throughout the season (cycles and periods can have a variable number of weeks).

Events

In the events column, you'll find competitions defined in the calendar or notes (those that cover the majority of the week, such as vacations, business trips, etc...).

7. Plan Visibility

By default only the author of the season plan is authorized to see it in its entirety, but a coach can authorize their athlete to see it from the settings, accessible using the button in the bar above the spreadsheet.
